The Willow Fire continues to burn near Bullhead City in northwestern Arizona.
Fire officials announced Tuesday it has burned more than 6,700 acres and is now 40 percent contained.
Hundreds of people were temporarily displaced as a result of the wildfire. As fire fighters work to contain the blaze, officials are allowing residents to return home.
Delores Garcia from the Bureau of Land Management said the last group has been allowed to return. Unfortunately, she said the residents of the Topock Lake Rancheros subdivision are likely returning home to inspect property damage.
“They were some of the first ones, and the last ones to be let back in. Our firefighters were determining the safety considerations of going back in, because it was fire damaged. It weakened some of the infrastructure through their power polls, propane tanks, etc.," Garcia said.
In total, the Willow Fire has destroyed 18 homes. Garcia said the shelter set up at Mohave Valley Elementary School will now turn into a claims center.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
