Flagstaff Shelter To Offer Transportation To Homeless

Homeless people in Flagstaff are getting some help getting around. The city’s transit system will donate two vans to a local homeless shelter.

The vans will take their clients to job interviews and medical appointments. The existing bus service on Route 66 is a half mile away from the shelter, making travel difficult for the disabled.

"Our interest is around making sure that people that have medical needs that can’t get to and from the bus stop would certainly be utilizing the vans in that way but we’re hoping that predominantly we can use these to really move people out of shelter and into housing," said Ross Altenbaugh, executive director of Flagstaff Shelter Services.

The service will be free for shelter clients and will take them to individual destinations. The service is expected to be up and running later this year.
