Does Arizona Need To Change Its Ambulance System?

Earlier this week, Scottsdale-based Rural/Metro Corporation was purchased by Colorado’s American Medical Response, or AMR. Experts say it shouldn’t affect the kind of ambulance service Arizonans receive, but the merger does leave a lack of competition.

Arizona’s former State Health Director Will Humble said the current system could use tweaking.

But is there any momentum to modify state statutes or change anything about the certificate of necessity or licensing system? Dr. Randall Friese is a trauma surgeon at the University of Arizona Medical Center and a State Representative.
