ASU students move into Taylor Place in downtown Phoenix in August 2015.

The new freshman at Arizona State University are beginning their first full week of classes.

There are about 2,000 more combined out-of-state and international students enrolled at ASU this year — the largest number of non-in-state students to ever register at the school.

Kent Hopkins, vice president of enrollment services, said the school has worked hard in recent years to make ASU accessible for everyone.

“Five years ago, we weren’t very diverse in our student enrollment at the undergraduate level. So, we can grow with our Arizona population and we can grow with our out of state and our international population,” Hopkins said.

Hopkins said by the end of the fall enrollment period, he expects the new freshman class to have about 11,500 students. Meeting another record: ASU’s largest freshman class ever.
