Southern Arizona Hit By Monsoon Storm

Southern Arizona was slammed with a monsoon storm, packing 60 mph winds late yesterday.  The storm brought down 60 power poles and caused severe flooding in some areas.

Meteorologist Chris Rasmussen of the National Service said parts of the area got quite a bit of rain.

“A lot of these storms did produce quite a bit of hail with them yesterday and also some heavy rain, especially when you get down towards Nogales," said Rasmussen.

The Avra Valley and Marana areas got high winds, which knocked down power poles and flooded roads with mud and water.

Rasmussen said Mother Nature may not be done.

“We are definitely unstable and so we are looking for another round of scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoon and evening," Rasmussen said.

Rasmussen said there was also a lot of lightning with yesterday’s monsoon storm and that could be the case again later today.
