Gov. Doug Ducey is looking to modify Arizona's Medicaid program, the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS).
The proposal, called AHCCCS Care, would require certain enrollees to make contributions to an account that could be used for services not currently covered by Medicaid.
We talked to AHCCCS Director Tom Betlach, who said the plan makes sense.
Betlach said the Federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services have approved similar changes in other states.
But critics of the governor’s proposals said the changes to Arizona’s Medicaid program would hurt recipients more than help them.
For more on that point of view, we talked to Sam Richard, executive director of PAFCO, Protecting Arizona’s Family Coalition.
