Why Didn't New Grocery Chain Last In Arizona?

Arizona is losing grocery stores. The Bellingham, Washington-based Haggen is closing five of its 10 stores in the state, one of which is in the Valley.

This comes just a few months after the company came into the market after it acquired some of the stores the Federal Trade Commission ordered Albertson’s and Safeway to sell after their merger.

For the why’s and how’s, we turned to Burt Flickinger III, managing director of Strategic Resource Group, a consumer industry consultancy which specializes in retail.
