Black Bear Shot By Officials As It Was Breaking Into Cabins In Northern Arizona

A black bear who apparently had lost his fear of humans was shot and killed by state Game and Fish officers Thursday. The bear had been breaking into cabins near Flagstaff.

Officers say the bear was spotted trying to break into a second cabin near Hart’s Prairie northwest of Flagstaff. The Arizona Daily Sun reported Game and Fish received a call late Wednesday night about a bear that had broken into a cabin and eaten food from the refrigerator. Wildlife officers responded and later shot the bear as it attempted to enter another cabin.

A supervisor for Game and Fish said the bear had recently tried to get into a dumpster and caused damage to residences.

The supervisor said the bear’s behavior indicates it has been feeding on non-wild food sources.
