The Arizona Department of Transportation will begin demolition this week on about 400 buildings, including homes in the path of the planned Loop 202 construction.
For the past 25 years, ADOT has been working to purchase the property in the area to clear the way for the last section of the freeway, which will connect I-10 in the west Valley to another stretch of the interstate near Chandler.
Construction is expected to begin in 2016.
