The body that oversees the accreditation of the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix has notified the school there are areas of noncompliance. If the school fails to fix them, the Liaison Committee of Medical Education wrote that it could impose probation, or withdraw the school’s preliminary accreditation.
"The the accreditation process for a new medical school is to make sure that we’re progressing on the right path and if there are a few things they see that we’re not [doing], that we can correct those and move forward," said university spokesperson Judy Bernas. "If you think about soccer, its really like getting a yellow card in soccer. So we’ve got it, we’ve heard your concerns, now we can address them and move forward."
Bernas said some concerns stemmed from the school’s affiliation with Banner Health. Other concerns revolved around the dean’s authority, funding, and ensuring there is sufficient staff, specifically department chairs.
