Arizona Health Officials: It's Time To Get Your Flu Shot

While influenza outbreaks typically taper off in March, health officials say it’s not too late to be vaccinated.

It may only be the end of August, but health officials in Arizona are thinking about the flu season.

The first shipments of vaccine have arrived and Arizona Department of Health Services  — and Immunization Director Dr. Karen Lewis said everyone should get a flu shot and some should get more.

“Pregnant women need not only the influenza vaccine but also need to have gotten a whooping cough vaccine during pregnancy, so antibodies can go into the baby and protect the infant,” Lewis said.

Lewis said the flu is a debilitating illness that sickens millions a year, killing many and costing many others valuable work and family time.
