Arizona Seeking Bids For New Operator Of Private Prison In Kingman

Private prison companies have less than 24 hours to express their interest in taking over a private prison facility in Kingman. The Arizona Department of Corrections severed its contract with the previous prison operator last week.

The state revoked Management and Training Corporations contract after a Department of Corrections report found the company has been in violation of several policies and procedures for five years.

The department is looking for a new private prison company to finish out the rest of MTC’s contract for the Kingman facility.

One of units at the prison is mostly vacant after a series of riots in early July. More than 1,200 inmates have been moved to other prisons and jails around the Arizona.

MTC estimates the damage could cost nearly $2 million and take at least four months to repair.
