Arizona Health Officials Investigate Salmonella Outbreak

State health officials are investigating a salmonella outbreak. So far 66 cases have been reported in Arizona.

The outbreak has been linked to garden variety cucumbers grown outside of the United States.

“These kinds of infections, these kinds of outbreaks can be prevented with adequate handwashing, with adequate washing especially of those fruits and vegetables we consume in the raw form,” said Pima County Health Department Director Dr. Francisco Garcia.

The Arizona cases are believed to be part of a nationwide outbreak of 285 cases in 27 states.

According to the Arizona Department of Health, about 1,000 cases of Salmonella are reported each year.
