The Phoenix City Council will meet Tuesday to start working on the voter approved public transportation expansion. The 35-year plan was passed as Proposition 104 by voters in last month’s election.
The councilwill vote to approve outlines for a Citizens Transportation Commission and light rail and bus expansion plans.
The commission will consist of 15 appointed community members and will replace the current Citizens Transit Commission. Its first actions will be looking at adding WiFi on light rail and buses, expanding bus hours and adding light rail stops.
The increased sales tax that funds the expansion will go into effect January 2016.
