It rained less than an inch in Yuma yesterday, but it was more than enough to break a nearly 120-year-old record.
Yuma topped its daily rainfall record for Sept. 8 with 0.91 inches. The previous record of 0.19 inches was set in 1896, according to the National Weather Service.
Yuma only receives about 3.3 inches of rain annually, making yesterday’s total almost 28 percent of the city’s rain for the year.
But the 0.91 inches still pales in comparison to the all-time single-day rainfall record for Yuma. That happened on Aug. 9, 1989, when 3.42 inches fell on the city.
