TEMPE, Ariz. — An Arizona State University history professor accused of plagiarism is on administrative leave.
ASU officials confirmed Thursday that Dr. Matthew Whitaker has been relieved of all duties.
ASU spokesman Mark Johnson says the school is reviewing allegations that Whitaker's "conduct has fallen short of the university's expectations for a faculty member and a scholar."
Whitaker terminated his consulting company's contract in July to train Phoenix police in cultural and community awareness.
Phoenix officials say many of the training slides Whitaker used were lifted from the Chicago Police Department, which offers them free.
Whitaker was recently demoted after a university review found his book on black America had significant issues.
His attorney, Lonnie Williams Jr., says the issues with the city of Phoenix have no bearing on Whitaker's ability to teach.
