On Friday, health officials confirmed the death of a Tucson-area woman as the first death in Arizona caused by Salmonella-tainted cucumbers.

Dr. Francisco Garcia, director of Pima County Health Services, said there are still cases of infection to worry about.

“We continue to do our investigation to see if any of the other cases that are not obviously linked to that could have a tie back, or would there be any other sources that was associated with this multi-state outbreak of Salmonella,” Garcia said.

The cucumbers were distributed by San Diego-based Andrew & Williamson Fresh Produce, who issued a recall earlier this month. Garcia said to take extra precaution when preparing foods by thoroughly washing produce and separating raw meats to help reduce the spread of bacteria.
