Arizona resident Sandra Day O’Connor became the first female justice in the history of the U.S. Supreme Court when Ronald Reagan selected her in 1981.
Justice O’Connor remained the sole female on the high court until Ruth Bader Ginsburg joined her in August of 1993.
Author Linda Hirshman spoke about her new book, "Sisters in Law: How Sandra Day O'Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg Went to the Supreme Court and Changed the World," in which she writes about the impact Justices O’Connor and Ginsburg have had on the legal system and, in turn, the entire nation.
She also writes about the mutual respect the two had for each other even as they weren’t social friends.
