The cost of beef continues to go up. Sirloin tip roast is up $1.27 per pound from last year and $2.50, from two years ago, to $7.65 per pound, according to the Arizona Farm Bureau.
Spokeswoman Julie Murphree said beef prices are going up because people continue to buy it, not just in Arizona, but around the world.
“The ranchers are adding to their herd and stuff because prices are so good. But remember it takes 24 months to bring a steer to market,” Murphree said.
She said until there is an oversupply of beef, prices are not likely to come down much.
And, Murphree said it’s not just beef that’s going up in price. She said eggs are up more than $1 dozen in the last year.
The Farm Bureau Federation said the cost of a market basket of 16 typical items is up $3.69 in the last quarter.
