The National Weather Service issued a red flag warning for parts of northeastern Arizona on Friday.
Meteorologist Cory Mottice said sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph with higher wind gusts have put that area at risk for wildfires, despite above average rainfall during the monsoon season.
"Most of the state has not seen any precip in at least a week; some areas a little more than that," said Mottice. "So, it has been drying out and we just have a pretty strong trough off to our north that are causing these strong southwest winds today."
Mottice says the warning will expire at 7 p.m. mountain standard time. Tomorrow will be breezy, but he says winds won’t be as strong.
