There are now four plans that have been proposed to get more money to K-12 education.
Governor Doug Ducey wants to tap more into the state land trust; GOP legislative leaders have a proposal; Democratic lawmakers earlier this week put forward their ideas; Yesterday, state school superintendent Diane Douglas released her plan. Howie Fischer of Capitol Media Services covered the release of Douglas’ plan and gave some of the highlights.
The plethora of plans leaves a lot of questions about whether the various parties can compromise, and if the state can afford to gamble in the short term by planning for the long term. Arizona State University associate professor David Garcia was the most recent Democratic nominee for state superintendent of public instruction and explained how he viewed the proposals.
The issue of where more money for education would come from is also on the mind of Rebecca Gau, executive director of Stand for Children Arizona.
