Bank customers in the Phoenix metro are paying some of the highest fees in the country.
According to a new report from Bankrate.com, the region has the third-highest average out-of-network ATM fees at nearly $5 a transaction.
Valley bank customers also have among the highest overdraft fees in their checking accounts, averaging more than $34.
Nationally, the report finds the percentage of banks offering free non-interest checking to all customers is down from 76 percent in 2009, to only 37 percent today.
