Acoustic Ecology Project Records Sounds Of Southwest Desert

Frogs croaking in Sequoia & Kings National Parks in California were recorded as part of a project called Listen(n), which looks at the acoustic ecology of deserts across the southwest. Garth Paine started it – he’s a professor in the School of Arts, Media & Engineering and the School of Music at Arizona State University.

Paine uses a format called ambisonic recording and has used the sounds he’s collected to create a virtual reality experience of some of the region’s parks.

There’ll be a concert of this music on Oct. 16 at the ASU Art Museum.
