Visitors to Maricopa County’s 10 regional parks will be able to enjoy a campfire or use a charcoal grill starting tomorrow.
Dawna Taylor, with the Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department, said the ban, which is typically lifted just before Labor Day, was extended due to drier conditions.
"The bulk of the rain has hit downtown Phoenix and our park system is located on the outskirts of Maricopa County," said Taylor. "So the brush in the parks has remained dry, so we haven’t been able to life our fire ban up until now."
The ban was implemented last May. Taylor said park supervisors can implement a temporary ban if conditions change between now and next summer.
