Students taking the PSAT on Oct. 14 will be the first group to take the new version of the exam.
The PSAT, which tests students on reading, writing and math skills, determines eligibility for the National Merit Scholarship Program. It’s also the test students take prior to the SAT, which colleges use for admitting students.
Both tests are undergoing changes regarding scoring, format and content.
Kathryn Borgesen, with Deer Valley Unified School District, said the test’s changes should benefit Arizona students.
“I hope that our students are, because they are preparing for Arizona college and career standards that they would also be, also more prepared for the types of testing and testing questions that the PSAT and SAT are going to be implementing as well," Borgesen said.
The new SAT will be distributed in March 2016.
