The Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department has lifted its ban on open charcoal and wood fires in the city’s mountain and desert preserves. However, smoking outside an enclosed vehicle is still prohibited.
The fire ban went into effect last May, and applied to Camelback Mountain, Papago Park, the Phoenix Mountains, South Mountain Park, North Mountain and the surrounding areas, the Sonoran Preserve and the Deem Hills Recreation Area.
