More foreign travelers are passing through the Scottsdale Municipal Airport. The airport’s customs office is processing 53 percent more aircraft than it did in 2014.
Officials credit the increased usage to expanded hours and an additional U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer in Scottsdale.
Sarah Ferrara, an airport spokesperson, said the bulk of the foreign travelers coming through the Scottsdale Airport are from Canada and Mexico.
"But since expanding the service we have seen it kind of branch out into other countries like Peru, Chile, London, Aruba and Egypt which is kind of just all over the place," she said.
Ferrara said the expansion cost the airport about $162,000. Passengers pay for customs processing on a per-aircraft basis.
