The last US Airways flight took off from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on Friday.
The airline, formerly based in Tempe, will be fully absorbed into American Airlines starting Saturday.
Kent Ernsberger has been flying for the company for 30 years. He piloted the leg of the last US Airways flight from Charlotte, North Carolina, to Phoenix on Friday afternoon.
“There’s some inner importance for me to fly this trip. I can’t quite put my finger on it," Ernsberger said. "I’ve had an outstanding career ... and I wanted to be part of this history.”
Flight 1939 was named for the year US Airways predecessor All-American Aviation began flying.
