The Phoenix Police Department made its transition to a new computer system, making it easier for officers to keep track of records from past cases.
Sgt. Trent Crump with the department says it took three years and $30 million to update the department’s infrastructure and old technology to prepare for the transition.
“It is one of the most sophisticated information technology systems in the country for law enforcement. So that is now computer driven,” he said.
The transfer of 700 million pieces of evidence and notes took about a week. Crump said the new system will help keep better track of information and have it more readily available.
