Phoenix Names First Smart City App Hack Winner

Scottsdale-based ParkX last night became the winner of the first Phoenix Smart City App Hack.

It’s part of an international competition to promote civic-minded apps. ParkX beat out four other finalists, and will now move on to the the Smart City Expo next month in Barcelona.

The program allows drivers to pay for parking with their smartphones - they can also get parking permits, pay for citations and get transit info, among other features.

We talked to Ross Shanken, CEO and co-founder of ParkX, about his company's win.
