The city of Phoenix received a $10 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to expand development on the Grand Canal in central Phoenix.
The money, which will be part of Phase Two of the Grand Canalscape project, will build a paved, multi-use trail stretching from Interstate 17 to the Tempe border, pedestrian bridges and lighting.
Phase One of the project is currently in design. Construction is expected to start next summer. Work on Phase Two is expected to be completed sometime in 2018.
