A tanker fire shut down traffic on the I-10 westbound near Baseline Road. The tanker, suspected to be full of herbicide started this morning during rush hour traffic causing serious delays for commuters.
Raul Garcia with the Department of Public Safety said it will still be sometime before the highway will be reopened.
“They’ll have to bring in heavier-duty tow capabilities, such as flat-bed commercial sized trailer, and get it out of the area. So, that and the clean-up, we’re looking at several hours — at least — before we can reopen the I-10 westbound,” he said.
Garcia said the cause of the fire is still under investigation. The driver of the truck was able to escape the cab.
