Surprise Takes Control Of City's Ambulance Services

The city of Surprise now has its first city-owned and operated paramedic ambulance system.

The Surprise Fire-Medical Department will take over responsibility for emergency transportation from Rural/Metro. The city and several other fire departments around the state applied for a certificate of necessity to run their own program after Rural/Metro applied for bankruptcy in 2013.

The company will still be providing the city with non-emergency, hospital to hospital transportation.
