Paz Cantina in downtown Phoenix closed Sunday after only a year in business. Located on the corner of Roosevelt and Third streets, the building will be demolished and replaced with a mixed-use apartment complex.
Paz celebrated its first anniversary Saturday and closed its doors on Sunday, with plans to reopen at a new location in 2017.
Greg Esser is a co-founder of the Roosevelt Row Community Development Corporation and said this was common for the arts district.
“We also have a net gain of new business opening and that’s been the case for over 10 years, and that’s how we’ve come to have such a vital ecology of businesses now,” Esser said. “While we hate to see any business leave, change or move to a new location, it’s inevitable just because of the evolution of urban communities.”
Esser said Paz Cantina owner Michael Reyes hopes to continue serving the downtown community with a food truck in the meantime.
