A new bill might address the flight path issues that have affected parts of central Phoenix for more than a year. Arizona Rep. Ruben Gallego introduced the legislationlast week.
It would create a liaison for the Federal Aviation Administration who would be charged with assessing community impact of agency actions.
Gallego told residents at a meeting in central Phoenix Tuesday night the bill would also create a system for challenging a flight route.
“It sets up an appeal process for cases that have been affected by flight pattern changes, which will require public input as well as environmental review,” which he said was skipped before the flight path changes last year.
Gallego said his legislation addresses current and potential future problems related to the flight paths. Multiple lawsuitsfrom the city of Phoenix and residents of affected neighborhoods are pending against the FAA.
