Many schools in the Valley are sending home standardized test scores Monday. Students took the new assessment for the first time last spring.
The new test called AzMERIT was implemented as part of Arizona's College and Career Readiness standards adopted in 2010. Early results released this summer showed more than half of the students scored minimally or partially proficient.
Peoria Unified School District Deputy Superintendent Heather Cruz said schools are warning parents not to compare these scores to previous standardized assessments.
“This is a transition year. This is the first year of this test. This is new. This is a baseline," She said. "We all experienced this when we took the AIMS for the first time. We are all learning and growing and assimilating to this new assessment.”
The state will release data on how the districts performed at the end of the month.
