In front of planes taking off, a crowd celebrated the 75th year of operations at the Phoenix Goodyear Airport on Monday.
The airport began in 1940 to serve the war effort and now provides personal air travel.
Lux Air Jet Center Manager Ryan Reeves said the airport has a storied history that residents of Goodyear may not know.
“This anchor, as we call it, that’s what the airport is, it started many of the communities around it, it started the community itself," Reeves said. "Most of the homes just north of here were actually built for company employees of the factories."
The Goodyear blimp came to the airport to mark the occasion, which brought the Phoenix aviation director and mayor of Goodyear.
The anniversary comes after one of the airport’s busiest weekends, bringing in the planes for NASCAR crews to Phoenix International Raceway.
