A top Republican in the Arizona State House is moving to have the state speed up tax breaks for the insurance industry.
The proposal by Majority Whip David Livingston, R-Peoria, would drop the current 2 percent tax on insurance premiums to 1.7 percent in 2021. Legislative staffers have estimated the move would lose $35 million in revenue.
Livingston said the insurance industry is due the tax breaks. "I guess if the choice is spending more money or giving more money back to the people who pay for it, I will always give it back to the people," he said.
