Students at the University of Arizona add their handprints to a banner that will be displayed at the United Nations Climate Conference in Paris.

An Arizona professor is leading a delegation to Paris for the United Nations Climate Conference starting next week.

The goal of the United Nations Climate Conference starting Monday is to craft global agreements for reducing carbon emissions and slowing warming.

This is the first year the University of Arizona will have observers.

“Universities are a very important part of the conversation about climate change and the responses to it. University of Arizona is arguably one of the leading research universities in the United States if not the world, particularly in the area of climate adaptation," said Diana Liverman, co-director of UA's Institute of the Environment.

Faculty, graduate students and community members will represent the university. Four will attend the first week and another four the second week.
