Inmate Jumps Out Of Moving Vehicle On Phoenix-Area Freeway

An inmate is back in custody after jumping out of a moving police transport van on a Phoenix-area freeway Wednesday morning.

Adam Arlington, 31, is now hospitalized and listed in serious condition.

Arlington was handcuffed and shackled when he kicked out a passenger-side window on a Gilbert police van, jumped out and ran across Interstate 10 near Elliot Road.

Police said Arlington suffered a head injury and, after being recaptured, was taken to a Phoenix hospital. Arlington was in custody on a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct.

When he tried to escape, he was on his way to be booked into the Maricopa County jail after he was unable to post bond.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
