Arizona Attorney General's Office Warns Consumers Of New Scam

The Arizona Attorney General’s Office is warning of a sophisticated new scam where con artists pose as representatives of the AG’s office to steal your money.

The scam targets consumers who have previously been ripped off by telemarketers according to Attorney General’s Office spokeswoman Mia Garcia.

“It’s a new twist on an advanced fee scheme in which consumers are duped into providing money up front in order to receive something and they actually get nothing," Garcia said.

Garcia said the Attorney General’s office does not call or mail consumers demanding immediate payment for allegedly overdue bills or unpaid fees.  And, she says the AG’s office would never ask you to make a payment to provide service.  Anybody who has been re-victimized or gotten a letter or phone call from the scam artists is asked to contact the Attorney General’s Office directly.
