Buffalo Chip Saloon In Cave Creek Destroyed By Thanksgiving Day Fire

One of the Valley’s most historic saloons burned down Thanksgiving Day. Intending to host a Thanksgiving feast for football fans, it instead lay in ashes.

Several fire units from across the Valley came to fight the Thursday morning blaze that engulfed the Buffalo Chip Saloon in Cave Creek. By the time the fire was under control, Capt. Aaron Ernsberger of the Phoenix Fire Department said not much was left of the more than 6,000-foot structure.

“Complete and total loss," said Ernsberger. "Fire units showed up, there was fire through the roof. About 25 to 30 units on scene and over 100 firefighters for sure. So, you know they just protected the exposure and kept it from hitting the other exposures.”

Known for country dancing and bull riding for more than 60 years, the Buffalo Chip Saloon was also a gathering place for Green Bay Packers fans. A Thanksgiving meal had been planned during a watch party for the Packers game Thursday night. There were no injuries reported from the fire.
