Goodyear’s largest manufacturing company recently announced plans to grow the size of its factory by about 55 percent to roughly 700,000 square feet.

More than half of Sub-Zero Group Inc.’s refrigeration products are already produced in its Southwest Valley location just west of the Loop 303 and north of Interstate 10.

The expansion will mean adding more than 100 new jobs over the next four years. Most of the positions will be related to fabrication and assembly, said Goodyear Plant Manager Ron Jones. But the company will also add supervisors, designers and people focused on quality control.

“We need to grow for the future to keep up with the demand of product that we’re selling,” Jones said.

While many manufacturing companies have outsourced to other countries, Jones said Sub-Zero is committed to doing business in the United States.

“We’re never going to take our products and our jobs overseas,” Jones said.

Based in Wisconsin, Sub-Zero makes a variety of high-end appliances. The company came to Goodyear in 2011 and has had a Phoenix location since 1980. Expansion construction is expected to be completed by the end of next year.
