Firefighters in southern Arizona are battling a suspected human-caused wildfire in the Santa Rita Mountains, south of Tucson.
Coronado National Forest spokeswoman Heidi Schewel said the blaze is a mixture of tall grass and oak, and has charred about 100 acres.
“The grasslands are actually going to benefit from this fire so there’s no reason to spend a lot of money on air operations, as far as retardant drops, at this time. There’s just really no need for it,” she said.
Schewel said with the abundant dry fuel available right now, she is not surprised there is a December wildfire burning in the Coronado National Forest.
