As reports continue to surface that the Arizona Coyotes will likely leave Glendale, a state official confirmed Thursday that one option is returning to where the team practiced when it first moved to the Valley.
Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum could become the Coyotes new home, according to Jen Yee, assistant executive director for the Arizona Exposition and State Fair. Team representatives have toured the facility a couple times as part of an exploration process.
“What I have heard is that it would be a temporary home, and they are still looking to build a permanent venue downtown,” Yee said.
Glendale recently extended the deadline for submitting proposals to manage Gila River Arena to Dec. 18. The city can take over arena management from the Coyotes in July 2016.
A team representative said Thursday the club has also had discussions with the city of Phoenix and Arizona State University about a possible new arena.
