Chandler is opening its waiting list for Section 8 housing, a voucher program for low-income families, even though it doesn’t anticipate anyone on that list will immediately get housing assistance.
The city has a smaller Section 8 program than many of its neighbors, including Phoenix, Mesa and Scottsdale, and hasn’t added any names to its waiting list in several years. Kurt Knutson, Chandler’s housing and redevelopment manager, spoke about why is the city opening its waiting list.
