NAU Ecologist: Growing Drylands Will Impact Food Chain

The Valley is known as one of drier places in the world, but it’s not unique.

Drylands make up about 40 percent of land on the Earth. As the impact of climate change increases, the percentage of drylands may grow. Microbes will have less to eat, and that will have an impact on the path up the food chain. Northern Arizona University soil ecologist Matthew Bowker, who is a co-author of the global study that looked into the topic, spoke about the issue.
