Drylands make up about 40 percent of land on the Earth. As the impact of climate change increases, the percentage of drylands may grow. Microbes will have less to eat, and that will have an impact on the path up the food chain. Northern Arizona University soil ecologist Matthew Bowker, who is a co-author of the global study that looked into the topic, spoke about the issue.
