Planned Parenthood of Arizona is increasing security at its clinics. The move is in response to a recent shooting at a clinic in Colorado Springs and a tense political environment, but the state chapter has also dealt with a few incidents.
Since secretly recorded videos about Planned Parenthood’s fetal tissue donation program were released this summer, the organization has been on high alert.
Vice President of Public Affairs Jodi Liggett said in the past six months, there were at least two situations at clinics in the Valley the organization is concerned about. No one was injured, but Liggett said an individual behaved in a threatening manner.
“In light of the increase in tension and a couple of incidents that we actually believe were spurred by the videos over the summer, we have doubled down with our relationships with local law enforcement," she said.
Liggett said she’s confident in the steps the organization is taking and assures women the clinics are safe.
