Funding from the grant will be used to restore eight sculptures, including the limestone "Navajo Water Girl," donated by Doug Hyde.

The Heard Museum plans to restore eight sculptures by notable American Indian artists, thanks to a grant from Bank of America.

The museum is the first in Arizona to receive the bank’s Art Conservation Project Grant, which this year was awarded to 13 museums around the world.

Some of the chosen pieces haven’t even been displayed to the public yet due to their poor condition, but the grant will help change that.

“Some of them just need cleaning, some of them need some more extensive restoration, and all of them are by leading contemporary sculptors," said Diana Pardue, a curator of collections at the Heard.

The conservator for the project will be Ron Harvey, who regularly works on restoring art for the Heard. The public will be able to watch some of the restoration at work, which will start Jan. 6 and continue throughout the month.
