APS Declines To Disclose Political Donations

Arizona’s largest utility will not disclose its political donations. APS says doing so would violate the company’s constitutional rights.

In November, Arizona Corporation Commission member Robert Burns asked APS to disclose its direct and indirect contributions to political candidates in the 2014 elections.

As KJZZ reported, the demand came in response to $3 million in alleged dark money contributions from the utility and its parent company to the campaigns of current commissioners Tom Forese and Doug Little.

APS's president and CEO told Burns in a letter this week that compelled disclosure about political contributions made by APS goes beyond what Arizona campaign finance law requires and would, “impinge on APSs first amendment rights.”
